Fairfield University Fairfield, CT THE FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY JAZZ COMPANY The Fairfield University Jazz Company is an 8 to 10 member student group led by renowned jazz musician and director, Brian Torff. They perform a wide variety of jazz from traditional to modern jazz, blues, rock, and world music. Their concerts also include demonstrations in improvisation and some background about the history of jazz as taught by Torff, a professor of music at Fairfield University. Jazz is an American art form and is a valuable lesson in the importance of diversity in American culture. THE FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY WORLD MUSIC ENSEMBLE The Fairfield University World Music Ensemble is a 15 to 20 member group that performs on percussion instruments form Ghana and other regions. This student group performs African, Brazilian, African-American, Latin American and other world music forms. Formed in 1995, the group is led by Brian Torff, a renowned jazz musician. The group educates audience about world music, the instruments, and the people who make such an extensive contribution to world culture. Audiences are invited to participate and proceeds are used to buy and repair the many instruments used by the group.
